Cómo dar forma de bonsai a tu olivo mediante su poda

Hoy estudiamos la manera en la que podar nuestro olivo para lograr esa forma de bonsai que está marcando tendencia entre las gamas ornamentales. Vas a descubrir cuándo es el mejor momento y cómo hacerlo.

  • ¿Por qué hay que podar un olivo?

Si es popularmente sabido que la poda de un árbol reduce su esperanza de vida y lo hace más endeble, ¿por qué hay que hacerlo con nuestro olivo, más si éste es ornamental?

La razón es aprovechar su rusticidad y longevidad, así como la excelente capacidad para volver a brotar. Sin embargo, para ello, debemos conocer cuál es la época correcta.

  • Entonces… ¿Cuándo es el momento óptimo para la poda?

Se recomienda realizar la poda con el fin del invierno, sin riesgo de helada alguna, como lo más importante pues podría matar al completo todas las ramas del olivo y tardaría años en recuperar de nuevo sus ramas.

Hay que realizar una poda que más bien se denominaría »desmochado», esto es, la eliminación de la totalidad de las ramas, a ras del tronco. Se dejará, pues, un pequeño tocón en cada rama principal, con una longitud en función del tamaño de árbol que estemos buscando.

  • ¿Cómo darle la forma de un bonsai?

Hay que esperar a que vuelva a brotar, entonces se realizarán pequeños cortes periódicos, bien utilizando tijera de podar o cortasetos dando la forma deseada en cada rama para lograr el parecido a un bonsai. Como consejo, la mayoría de podadores dan a cada rama una forma ovalada en estos recortes posteriores a la poda.
