Injerto de Olivo Ornamental

¿Alguna vez has hecho injertos en un árbol? Es una antigua técnica de plantación que se ha utilizado para estudiar todo tipo de plantas. Tradicionalmente, los acebuches se han utilizado como tallos para la poda de olivos. De esta forma, el olivo se beneficia de su vigor.

En la actualidad, las variedades se enraízan inmediatamente sin injertar, el método se usa solo para modificar las especies de plantas maduras. Sin embargo, es bueno saberlo, porque no deja de ser una buena forma de aprovechar el sistema radicular y las características atmosféricas de distintas especies.

1. Injerto de Olivo Ornamental

Podemos definir el injerto como una forma de multiplicar una planta insertando una rama o uno o varios cogollos en otra planta. Un brote o rama es un injerto, y la planta que lo recibe es un patrón o portainjerto. 

El objetivo que se persigue con el injerto es aprovechar las características del portainjerto, y utilizar las características de una determinada variedad para el injerto. Por ejemplo, se pueden utilizar portainjertos de acebuche para injertar variedades picuales. El resultado es un árbol con la robustez de un acebuche, pero con las características de esta variedad de olivo, así como sus hábitos de crecimiento y producción.

2. Tipos de material vegetal para cada variedad

Para sacar los injertos de los brotes o ramas de olivo se pueden usar tres tipos de yema: de madera, de fruto y latentes.

Brote o rama de un año:  Podemos observar  las yemas axilares en la base de la hoja que, posteriormente, evolucionarán a madera. Son buenas para el injerto de Púa.

Rama de dos años:  La base de las hojas que no han sacado fruto tienen la yema axilar, pero algunas habrán perdido vigor . Por esta causa los injertos con estas yemas podrían evolucionar al año siguiente. Son aptas para el injerto de Escudete o Chapa.

Rama de tres años: En este caso ya se han caído las hojas y no han sacado fruto. La rama será por tanto lisa y tendrá las huellas de la hoja o fruto que ha caído y una tercera, la superior, correspondiente a la yema latente. Al injertarse, evolucionará a madera. Estas ramas, de grosor adecuado, son aptas para injertos de Escudete o Chapa.

3. Sistemas de Injerto

Injerto de Púa

El injerto de púa se lleva a cabo con ramas de injerto de al menos un año de vida, procedentes de la parte media del árbol. Para ello, a la rama que va a ser injertada se le da forma de punta para insertarla ‘como una púa’ en el árbol de destino. En este caso, el injerto debe hacerse cerca del suelo y cubrirse con tierra hasta la última yema.

El injerto de escudete

Está diseñado para plantas de menos de dos años de vida, aunque también se aplica a pequeñas ramas de las especies adultas. Por este método, la rama a injertar tendrá entre dos y tres años. La unión con el patrón se realiza mediante una incisión en forma de ‘T’; Luego, se envuelve con una tela de rafia para que el conjunto aguante el tiempo necesario para su correcta plantación.

El injerto de chapa

Es idóneo para efectuarse en ramas con más de seis centímetros de diámetro de grosor, de forma que se asegura una mayor superficie para lograr el injerto, además de que favorece un mayor crecimiento a corto y medio plazo. Para ello, tanto las ramas que se van a injertar como las del patrón deben tener un grosor proporcional para que el árbol mantenga una estructura homogénea.
